Spark has been built by Readdle for many years and is at home on almost every device. It has a free entry point, shared drafts, team comments and an interface many people already know. If you want a solid, cheap and widely available mail app, you will not go far wrong.

BoxBee is deliberately narrower. Four platforms, one focus, no department for everything. The focus is that the mailbox is already sorted before you open it, and that the content is processed in Europe while that happens.

Spark runs on macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Android and Windows. If there are Android phones around you, that is a solid advantage and BoxBee cannot offset it today.

BoxBee is native on macOS, Windows, iOS and iPadOS. Within those four the experience is the same: same filing, same dossiers, same daily brief.

Spark is around $8 a month on the paid tier and has a free entry point, which makes it one of the cheaper offers in this field. BoxBee is in a similar range; the exact amounts live in the pricing section on the home page.

At that distance the price is not what decides. What decides is what you want the app to do. If background automation and the processing location matter to you, look at BoxBee. If you mainly need many devices and shared drafts, that speaks for Spark.

Both apps offer AI features, and both send content to a model to do it. BoxBee names the chain openly: Mistral as a model developed in France, servers in Europe, a vendor based in Luxembourg. Readdle does not present Spark as processing in Europe.

If mail with client names, diagnoses, salaries or draft contracts passes through your mailbox, this is not a side issue. If you mostly receive newsletters, invoices and appointment confirmations, it probably is.

The autopilot in BoxBee classifies arriving mail, files what it recognises into the right dossier and quarantines marketing instead of letting it into the inbox. The daily brief summarises in the morning what is still open, with the open items pulled out of it.

That is the part that changes the day: not replying faster, but having to reply less often.

A comparison where only one side ever wins is not a comparison. These points go against us:

• Spark covers more platforms, Android in particular.
• Spark has a free tier you can keep working with permanently.
• Spark’s collaboration features, such as shared drafts and comments on a message, go further.
• Readdle has been building Spark for many years. That is a longer operating history than BoxBee can show.

If you need Android, if you want to start for free, or if your team works on drafts together a lot, Spark is the obvious choice.

If you are on Mac, Windows and iPad, if it matters to you where your content is processed, and if you want the mailbox sorted before you open it, take BoxBee. Seven days with your real mailbox shows it more clearly than any table.
